I’m Maria. I like to write stuff. All kinds of stuff.
I was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and moved to the USA when I was seven years old.
I come from a very diverse family. From a native-Brazilian heritage to an Italian citizenship, my family exposes me to many different cultures.
Currently, I am a Senior at Townsend Harris High School in New York City. Throughout my time in the school, I have established a presence in both the school’s newspaper, where I am an editor and the Varsity Volleyball team.
I am always looking for opportunities to learn more about the fields I am interested in. In the summers of 2021 and 2022, I participated in a Harvard foreign policy summer program, where I heard from influential people in the foreign policy world.
In the summer of 2021, I also participated in a JTB ConnectEd program for high school students interested in Law.
Currently, I am a part of Columbia University’s High School Law Institute and, last school year, I participated in the NYU chapter of this same institute.
Outside of school, the team, and other extracurricular activities, I volunteer for a program called 826NY, an organization that welcomes kids into the literary world through tutoring, special events, and their own student publication.
In college, I want to major in areas, like English or Literature, that will help lay a strong foundation for a career in either Law, Journalism, or both. I also want to further my studies of the French language by possibly doing a semester abroad in France.
I have a genuine passion for writing and literature in general. I love reading ‘classic’ books (my favorite being The Picture of Dorian Gray) and, as a personal goal, I want to publish a book of my own.
Salut!
Maria
